The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is the Organizing Institute for GATE 2027. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 will be conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT) for 30 test papers. Candidates currently studying in the third or higher year of an eligible undergraduate degree programme, or candidates who have already completed an eligible degree, can apply. The GATE 2027 online application process will start on 14th August 2026 and the regular last date to apply is 21st September 2026. Applications with late fee can be submitted up to 30th September 2026.

GATE 2027 score can be used for admission to eligible Master's and Doctoral programmes and may also be used by some institutions and PSUs according to their respective admission or recruitment rules. Qualifying GATE does not by itself guarantee admission, scholarship or employment.

GATE 2027 Test Papers

GATE 2027 will be conducted for 30 test papers. Candidates can appear for one or two test papers, subject to the permitted combinations specified in the Information Brochure.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must satisfy the educational eligibility conditions specified in the GATE 2027 Information Brochure.

Undergraduate Degree Candidates currently studying in the 3rd or higher year of an undergraduate degree programme, or candidates who have already completed a UGC/AICTE-approved degree programme in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities are eligible.
Medical / Agriculture Eligibility Candidates studying in the 5th, 6th, 7th or higher semester, or those who have completed M.B.B.S., B.D.S., B.V.Sc. or B.Sc. in Agriculture, Horticulture or Forestry, are also eligible subject to the brochure conditions.
Age Limit No minimum or maximum age limit.

Application Fee

The application fee is charged per test paper. Candidates applying for two test papers have to pay twice the applicable single-paper fee. Bank service and processing charges may be additional.

Exam Pattern

GATE 2027 will be conducted in Computer Based Test mode. Each test paper contains General Aptitude and the candidate's selected subject component.

  • Wrong MCQ answers carry negative marking.

  • No negative marking for MSQ and NAT questions.
  • No partial marking.

How to Apply

Candidates must submit the GATE 2027 application online through GOAPS. The brochure states that the application process, document uploads and certificates are entirely online.

  • Visit the official GATE 2027 website.
  • Register through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).
  • Enter the required personal, communication and academic details.
  • Select one or two permitted GATE test papers.
  • Upload photograph, signature, photo ID and applicable certificates.
  • Pay the prescribed application fee online.
  • Check the application carefully before final submission.
  • Download and keep a copy of the submitted application form.

Documents Upload Guidelines

Photograph Color passport-size photograph, 3.5 cm width × 4.5 cm height. Face should cover 30–35% of the photograph and the background should be white.
Signature Signature must comply with the photograph/signature specifications given in the GATE 2027 Information Brochure. Digital signatures are not allowed; the signature should be clearly visible and made in blue or black ink.
